What is ESG

ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance. It is a framework used to evaluate the sustainability and ethical impact of a company or investment. Each of the three components of ESG represents a different aspect of a company’s operations:

  1. Environmental: This refers to a company’s impact on the environment, including its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, manage waste and pollution, conserve resources, and promote renewable energy. Environmental factors also consider a company’s response to climate change and its commitment to sustainable practices.

  2. Social: The social aspect of ESG looks at how a company interacts with its employees, customers, suppliers, and the communities in which it operates. It includes factors such as labor rights, employee health and safety, diversity and inclusion, product safety and quality, customer privacy, community involvement, and philanthropy.

  3. Governance: Governance focuses on a company’s internal policies, structures, and practices. It encompasses areas such as board composition and independence, executive compensation, transparency and disclosure, risk management, and shareholder rights. Good governance ensures that companies have effective leadership, accountability, and strong ethical standards.
