Energy Management Solution by Smart Joules
Energy efficiency is one of the most effective ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. However, many commercial and industrial buildings in India still rely on outdated and inefficient energy systems that consume more power than necessary and increase operational costs. This is where Smart Joules, a Delhi-based energy-efficiency technology startup, comes in.
Smart Joules was founded in 2015 by Arjun P. Gupta, Ujjal Majumdar, and Sidhartha Gupta, who have backgrounds in engineering, management, and finance. The company’s vision is to make saving energy simple, substantial, and profitable for businesses. The company offers energy-efficiency-as-a-service solutions for various sectors, such as hospitals, hotels, data centers, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
Smart Joules’ flagship product is DeJoule, a cloud-based platform that uses IoT sensors and controllers to monitor and optimize the performance of energy systems in real time.
1. DeJoule can reduce the energy consumption of cooling, heating, ventilation, lighting, and power quality systems by up to 50%.
2. DeJoule also provides data analytics and insights to help clients improve their operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Smart Joules operates on a pay-as-you-save (PAYS) model, which means that clients do not have to pay any upfront or recurring fees for the installation or maintenance of the energy-efficiency solutions. Instead, they share a portion of the savings generated by the solutions with Smart Joules over a fixed period. This way, clients can enjoy the benefits of lower energy bills and reduced carbon footprint without any financial risk or hassle.
Smart Joules has worked with over 40 clients across 25 cities in India, including leading hospitals such as Apollo, Aster, Fortis, KIMS, Max Healthcare, Medanta, and Narayana Health.
The company claims to have saved over 20 crore kWh of electricity and avoided over 1.38 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions since its inception. The company also claims to have generated an average energy savings of about 29% to 30% across its portfolio.
Smart Joules has received recognition and support from various national and international organizations, such as the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Shell Foundation, Sangam Ventures, cKinetics Accelerator Program (CAP), Climate-KIC Accelerator India (CKAI), and Climate Solver by WWF India.
Smart Joules is on a mission to decarbonize one company at a time by providing smart solutions for energy efficiency. The company aims to avoid 29 million tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2030 and become a global leader in the energy-efficiency market.
