BASF and Envision Energy Partner to Speed Up Green Hydrogen and CO2 Conversion into E-methanol

BASF Process Catalysts, a leader in catalyst technology, is teaming up with Envision Energy, a prominent provider of green technology and net-zero solutions. Their joint effort aims to advance the process of converting green hydrogen and CO2 into e-methanol using an advanced, dynamic approach.

With their combined expertise, these two companies intend to improve the production process of e-methanol from green hydrogen and CO2. This partnership will see BASF offering its cutting-edge SYNSPIRET catalyst technology, which Envision Energy will integrate into its innovative energy management system. The plan is to demonstrate the effectiveness of this advanced process design next year at Envision Energy’s Chifeng site in Inner Mongolia, China.

The new catalyst developed by BASF represents a significant advancement in sustainable energy solutions, making the efficient conversion of green hydrogen and CO2 into e-methanol possible. E-methanol, particularly when produced with renewable energy, is an extremely versatile and environmentally friendly fuel.

It has the potential to replace fossil fuels such as gasoline and kerosene in various sectors like road transport, shipping, air travel, and more. E-methanol can be used without requiring changes to existing infrastructure, and its stability allows it to be stored at room temperature and ambient pressure, offering an indefinite shelf life. This not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also promotes a more sustainable energy ecosystem.

Envision Energy will design a process package to maximize the efficiency of the catalyst technology and facilitate the dynamic conversion of green hydrogen and CO2 into e-methanol, synchronizing with wind power generation. They will leverage their innovative AIoT platforms to optimize the dynamic operation of the chemical plant.
